The meeting between the business women delegation, coming from six different countries, and the PARMAforEXPO working group was made possible thanks to the collaboration with UNIDO and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Parma, October 16, 2015 – The PARMAforEXPO working group welcomed this morning a delegation of approximately thirty female entrepreneurs coming from six countries of the Middle East and North Africa: Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine. The main focus of the day, organized in collaboration with UNIDO – United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was the role that women can play in the development of the agrifood industry, in the name of sustainability and equal accessibility to resources.
The delegation of Middle Eastern and North African female entrepreneurs met at the Chamber of Commerce with the PARMAforEXPO stakeholders: Francesca Chittolini, Member of the Executive Council of the Chamber of Commerce of Parma; Stefano Girasole, Head of Economic Service Department of UPI- Parma’s Association of Industrialists; Barbara Panciroli, Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Parma.
During the meeting, PARMAforEXPO illustrated the specificities of Parma’s economic-entrepreneurial system, with a special focus on the agrifood cluster. The delegation of Middle Eastern and North African female entrepreneurs was also introduced to the applied research activities performed by the University of Parma and by the Experimental Station for the Food Industry (SSICA)- represented by Gloria Attolini, Head of Communication and Dissemination Department – in the aim of promoting innovation and supporting the competitiveness of local businesses. Two successful female entrepreneurs from Parma also took part in the meeting at the Chamber of Commerce and they told the delegation about their respective professional experiences: Ombretta Sarassi, General Manager of Opem, a leading capsule-filling machine manufacturer which through its innovative solutions contributed in recent years to the strong coffee pods and capsules market development, and Annalisa Sassi, CEO of Casale, a food processing industry which has been specializing for over a century in the worldwide offer of top quality selected food products.
