The National Day of the UAE, scheduled for tomorrow at EXPO, has had a preview in Parma, with the visit of the Dubai SME’s management. At the meeting, start a network of business relationships with companies around Parma, also in view of Dubai in 2020.
Parma, October 19, 2015 – Tomorrow EXPO will celebrate the National Day of the UAE. The event has had a preview in Parma: as a matter of fact today the PARMAforEXPO working group received a delegation representing Dubai SME, the agency mandated to develop the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector in Dubai. The delegation was led by the Principal Executive Mr. Ibrahim Ayoub, accompanied by a number of managers responsible for the development of trade relations with the Middle Eastern country.
With a GDP amounting to 401.6 billion dollars, which recorded a 3.6% increase over the past 12 months, and one of the highest per capita incomes in the world (over $ 45,000), the United Arab Emirates economy is mainly based on the export of oil and natural gas (accounting for 85% of total exports). For Italian companies, this country represents a unique business opportunity: both because of its political stability, and because Dubai will host the Universal Exposition of 2020, with planned investments for at least $ 8.5 billion.
The delegation of the Dubai Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises began their day in Parma with a visit to the CPL Dairy - Consorzio Produttori Latte di Parma (Parma’s Consortium of Milk Producers), who is one of the major cheese makers in Parma producing approximately 9,000 Parmigiano Reggiano wheels, and then to the Experimental Station for the Food Preserving Industry (SSICA) which is mandated to promote scientific, technical and technological progress of the Italian food-preserving industry by performing applied research activities to support over 3,000 companies specializing in the agrifood industry.
After the above mentioned visits, the delegation from Dubai was received at Palazzo Soragna- the Headquarters of Parma’s Association of Industrialists, UPI- by the representatives of the PARMAforEXPO stakeholders: Stefano Girasole, Head of Economic Service Department of UPI; Andrea Zanlari, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Parma; Cristiano Casa, Councillor for Industry, Tourism and Trade of the City of Parma; Erasmo Neviani, Delegate of the Rector of the University of Parma for EXPO 2015.
The meeting held at UPI was the occasion to introduce the Middle Eastern guests to the characteristics and uniqueness of Parma’s economic system as well as to start building business relationships between the UAE and local businesses, namely with regard to the agrifood supply chain. Therefore the meeting was followed by business networking activities featuring one-to-one meetings with Parma’s entrepreneurs.
