Four representatives of Pakistani businesses, accompanied by two senior officials, are in Parma today seeking partners for the purchase of industrial machinery. The day, which will include a visit to the Bertoli company, is organized in collaboration with UNIDO – the United Nations Organization that helps developing countries.
Parma, 21 May 2015 – Two days after hosting a group of business operators from the Philippines, today the PARMAforEXPO Working Table is welcoming a Pakistani delegation in Italy to visit EXPO 2015. This incoming initiative aims to open up investment opportunities and new commercial channels in Pakistan for Parma’s entrepreneurs, and was made possible by close cooperation between the PARMAforEXPO Working Table and UNIDO, the United National Organization that helps developing countries and transition economies.
The sixth most populous country in the world, with 182.1 million people, Pakistan and its economy are experiencing slow but steady growth: the last year with negative GDP growth was as long ago as 1951. As shown by World Bank data, in 2014 Pakistani GDP stood at 232.3 billion dollars, up 5.4% over the previous year. Estimated growth for 2015 is 4.6%. In particular, the manufacturing and Information Technology sectors are driving the economy, as well as the policies implemented by the Government in the past few years, with incentives for foreign investors – from tax exemptions for more than 10 years to the abolition of import duties on certain products.
The Pakistani delegation in Parma today consists of four companies operating in the agribusiness (dairy), manufacturing and energy sectors. The Pakistani delegation is seeking partners for the purchase of machinery in Parma, which is recognized worldwide as an outstanding area for the development of innovative technological solutions for the agri-food industry. The group is accompanied by Andrea Carapellese, UNIDO representative, and by two senior officials: Mr. Muhammad Ghumman, Under Secretary for the Ministry of Industry and Production and head of the delegation, and Mr. Farid Tarar, Commercial Attaché of the Pakistan Embassy in Italy.
The Pakistani group’s day in Parma started at Palazzo Soragna: Cesare Azzali, Director of UPI – Parma Industrialists Association and President of the PARMAforEXPO Working Table, welcomed the guests, Prof. Marina Cassano greeted them on behalf of the University of Parma, and Giovanni Baroni, UPI Small Industry representative, talked about the excellences of the Parma area, focussing on its artistic and cultural treasures and on the main sectors of the local economy and its world leading companies.
The morning will continue with B2B matching at the Chamber of Commerce of Parma. To complete the programme, the groups will visit the Bertoli company, world leader in the production of homogenizers and high-pressure volumetric pumps.
