PARMAforEXPO welcomes a delegation from Chile


The delegation coming from Chile will be welcomed by the PARMAforEXPO working table at the Chamber of Commerce, where the main institutions representing the city of Parma will extend to them their warmest greetings. The day programme will then include a visit to SSICA (the Experimental Station for the Food Preserving Industry).

Parma, June, 8th, 2015 – The PARMAforEXPO Table has welcomed today a Chilean delegation, which came to Italy to visit EXPO 2015.

With a population of 17,6 million people Chile can definitely boast a healthy economy: as shown by the data of the World Bank, its GDP has been growing for several years and keeps growing. In 2014 it recorded 277.2 billion dollars, with a 1.4% increase over the previous year. Estimates for 2015 are also positive, with an expected 2.9% increase. Moreover Chile’s per capita GDP value is among the highest ones in Latin America. Chile is famous for the copper mining industry, which meets 36% of the world demand, but in recent years the country’s economy has benefited from the growth of the agrifood industry, especially in the Centre and in the South of the country. As a matter of fact the export of fruits and vegetables reached unprecedented levels after the opening of the European and North American markets further to Asian countries. Chile is also one of the largest wine producers in the world.

The Chilean delegation arrived in Parma this morning. Their visit started at the Chamber of Commerce of Parma, where Alberto Egaddi, Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce of Parma extended his warm greetings to the delegation on behalf of the whole city. He was then followed by Stefano Girasole, Head of the Economic Department of UPI – Parma’s Union of Entrepreneurs, and by Valentina Bernini, researcher at the Department of Food Science of the University of Parma.

The Chilean delegation then visited the Experimental Station for the Food Preserving Industry (SSICA), which, with its state-of-the-art laboratories and its highly qualified staff, is one of the most important applied research institutions in the world as to conservation of foods, specializing in fruit , vegetables, meat and fish.
